Path to a PMP certification
Set A requirements
• High school or secondary school diploma
• Minimum 60 months/5 years experience leading and managing projects within the past eight years
• 35 hours of project management education/training. You can also meet this requirement with:
– CAPM® certification or
– PMI Authorized On-Demand PMP Exam Prep or
– Instructor-Led PMP® course
Set B requirements
• Bachelor’s degree or higher (or global equivalent)
• 36 months/3 years experience leading and managing projects within the past eight years
• 35 hours of project management education/training. You can also meet this requirement with:
– CAPM® certification or
– PMI Authorized On-Demand PMP Exam Prep or
– Instructor-Led PMP® course
Set C requirements
• Bachelor’s degree or higher (or global equivalent) from a GAC accredited program
• 24 months/2 years experience leading and managing projects within the past eight years
• 35 hours of project management education/training (GAC core project management course work is pre-approved to fulfill this requirement)

Maintaining your PMP certification
Earning your PMP certification is a big accomplishment—maintaining it shouldn’t have to be. Continuous skill growth that extends beyond certification is critical to fuelling your career and your impact. PMP holders are required to earn 60 professional development units (PDUs) in each 3-year cycle to maintain a PMP certification. Each PDU represents one hour spent:

- Important Update: PMP Exam Changes Effective July 9, 2026
- The updated PMP exam will be launched on July 9, 2026, in alignment with the PMBOK® Guide – 8th Edition. This new version places stronger emphasis on AI, sustainability, and delivering strategic business value, with a significant increase in the business environment domain to 26%.
- The exam format will also evolve, expanding to 185 questions (previously 180) and introducing more interactive question types.
- Key Updates in the PMP 2026 Exam:

Greater focus on business environment topics, now accounting for 26% of the exam.

The exam will consist of 185 questions to be completed in 240 minutes, including new formats such as matching, hotspot, and dropdown questions. The content distribution will maintain a balanced 50/50 approach between predictive and agile/hybrid methodologies. - Preparation & Eligibility Updates:
